In 1978, I was a twenty one year old motorcycle enthusiast living in Adelaide.
So besotted by motorcycling, I eventually became the SA Editor of Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN), and one of the founding members of the M.R.A. (Motorcycle Riders Association) of South Australia.
Also a keen photographer, I shot rolls of black & white and colour slide film on my beloved Canon AE-1. Most of the film went to the magazine offices in Melbourne, but not all.
As the years passed, the few remaining images organically evolved into genuine South Australian motorcycling history, now almost fifty years old, and what to do with them was a growing concern. Binning the things seemed a terrible mistake: the images are a glimpse into Adelaide’s two wheeled past.
Scanning technology allowed me to save the images in digital format, and create this website.
You may find the images useful, or even bring back some happy memories.
My recollection of events can be patchy, or even non-existent, so any information is greatly appreciated. Also, the images of people are published in good faith, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns.
I wasn’t a professional photographer, and I’ve done my best to scan and edit each image.
This website is a slice of my personal experience of motorcycling in Adelaide during those years. Mistakes were made, but overall it was a fantastic experience.
